Lysozome
Lysozome is a protein found in human breast milk as well as most epithelial surface secretions including tears, nasogastric, saliva and bronchial. Lysozyme in the human body acts as a protective barrier against environmental agents and, in doing so, helps prevent infections. Lysozyme has the following properties:
- Anti-bacterial
- Functions by weakening the bonds in the bacterial cell wall.
- Anti-viral
- Anti-fungal
- Acts synergistically with lactoferrin to potentiate the activity of both proteins
Because of the important role lysozyme plays in the human body, a wide variety of potential products could be pursued. The following are some examples of how lysozyme could be used to enhance human and animal health:
- Gastrointestinal health
- Dietary management of acute diarrhea
- Treatment and prevention of topical infections
